Day 4: Favorite Book

They Cage the Animals at Night (Signet)I read this book when I was in 8th grade.  A memoir of the author's childhood in the NYC foster care system and local resident of my hometown.  He came to talk to my school after we finished the book and his story was just moving.

Product Details ROALD DAHL is one of my all time favorite children's authors.  I love to use these books to read to my students for fun or do lessons with them.  I cannot wait to begin reading them to Jack

Day 3: Favorite Teacher

I have a few favorite teachers over the years.
Elementary: 2nd grade- Ms. Jennings.  She was a tough teacher who parents requested their children not to have.  She was exactly what I needed to keep my attention and learn.  I volunteered in her classroom throughout middle school and high school and when she retired she gave me many teaching items to use in the future (which I still have).

Middle School: 6th grade math- Mr. Koestner.  He really started my love for math by playing games including the stock market game, extra credit projects to earn points on your GPA.  1 quarter I wound up with 104 average in his class.  In college I went back to observe and work in his class for a semester.  He is still teaching and truly has a love for math.

High School: Ms. Higgins. My English teacher junior year.  She was just awesome, brought a new twist on books but most importantly was someone you could talk about life with.  At the end of the year 2 friends and I took her to see Nelly Furtado in NYC with us, half as a chaperone half as a friend.

College: Dr. McCarthy.  My Special Education professor and travel mate to China.  He has an endless amount of knowledge when it comes to teacher.  His classes were always interesting and his humor was something to remember also.  4 years of classes throughout the semesters and I always looked forwards to registering for his.

Day 2: your definition of success

My definition of success would be personal happiness and successes together.

The success of going to college and graduating with some help from my parents financially and taking out loans and working for the rest of cost.  While being in college I got married and worked toward with my husband paying for our own wedding with small supports from both sets of parents.  We threw an amazing wedding for over 125 people at the age of 21 and 22.  We bought our first house 9 days before I turned 25 and had a baby 34 days later.  All while teaching and commuting to the city.
Following it with raising a son, while returning to school and work and maintaining high grades and a thriving son.  Those are my successes.

1st Semester Update

I finished!!!  2 classes later I received a GPA of 3.85.  I must pat my own back.  My professor was great and I hope he winds up teaching more classes before I finish.

I wish I could say that about the advisor who, how do I put at life.  It took 1 month of emails, repeated unanswered phone calls to register for the spring semester.  Why would you agree to be an advisor if you really could careless, reply with I have personal issues please be patient to an entire classroom of paying students.  I really hope she steps down before I need to register for Summer Semester.

2 classes down, 8 more to go!

the cast is OFF!!!

We did a 1 day trip to Philly, boy was it long.  We left at 5:30am and got there at about 9am (I slept all the way there), but I think we stopped for gas and coffee at some point.  Jack was FABULOUS. We woke him right before we were leaving, Changed his diaper and put him in the car, OUT! He woke up when I woke up.  We fed him once we were in hospital, and even then he was too busy being noisy.
They unwrapped his cast (I kept it because of all the signatures), and there it was a stinky cheese smelling arm & hand.
He was smiling and laughing for the doctors who kept commenting on how happy a baby he was.  (compliments already!!)  Then an occupational therapists came in to take the size for his splint.  HE has to keep it on for 6 weeks, to help make his hand open and thumb stuck out, I am just amazed about what goes one and can happen.  We had both Surgeons from Shriners and then a few from St. Louis in the room to see Jack and see how it looked, apparently they didn't do the skin grafting and how they did it is "new" and everyone wanted to see him.  Looking at his and knowing he only took 2 doses of meds after his surgery, he is a trooper, kids are able to bounce back for the roughest things, it truly is incredible.

Then we drove home, stopping at Ikea of course first!!  Making it out with basically nothing but the rod we went in for to hang my Starbuck Mug Collection.  Our tree is up and basically done, as is other decorations.  My Christmas Cards need to be finished and mailed but I have been so busy lately.  Hopefully once classes end Monday I can do.  I did so well this semester I impressed myself, fist back in a few years, while working and having a baby.  (patting myself on back).  As for now I am about to pass out, but waking up to FRIDAY so that is always good!
