29 - hopes, dreams and plans for the next 365 days

1 year from now 1.24.12 my life will be very different.  That I do know.   Breaking it up by person.

Jack: I hope he has an awesome 1st Birthday in May.  I am looking forward to planning his party and hosting it at our house.  He will have had his 2nd surgery for this ring finger webbing, I hope everything goes well for that.  He did so well the first time I hope he is the same way for the 2nd one.  In the next year he will start saying his first words, walk and turn into a toddler.  He changes daily and I cannot wait to wait the next 365 days of changing.

Tim: His business is taking off!  I hope it continues because he is truly gifted (just look at all the improvements to our house in such a short time).   He will be at the firehouse 4 years already onto the 5th.

Me:  At my job for the 2nd year, juggling Grad School and hopefully maintaining my average.  Being a great mom and I hope to have lost all baby weight.  Like to each 130 (+5 from preJack)

Day 28 - whats in my handbag/purse

Currently my purse is a diaper bag.  Or it is a passport wallet I use for everything.
Diaper bag has everything for Jack. Inside for me are keyring of store savings cards, coupon holder, lipgloss, chap stick, and pens + wallet.

Wallet: holds IDs, credit cards, checkbook, registry for checking account, coupons, phone, cash, coins and pen. (I have a large PASSPORT wallet as it is formally named)

Day 27 - my worst habit(s)

Nail biting.  Although I did have my real nails long for over 3 months, a record for me, they are gone again.  I hope that I can get them long again soon.

Lack of Patience.  I have no patience for stupidity.  I hate people who are walking contradictions, say 1 thing, do the opposite the next day.  I have seen it a lot lately and it drives me crazy.

Day 26 - your week, in great detail

Past Week 1/16-1/22/11

Sunday: I babysat 2 of my favorite boys all day.  I then went out for pizza with them and my friend (their mom).  Jack spent the day with me.

Monday: No work because of MLK Day. Also Our 5th year JOP anniversary.  Tim took dog to vet in the morning and I went shopping with Kim and had lunch at the mall with her and Jack.  Tim worked at night so I went to my parents for dinner with Jack.  He loves sitting in his highchair at the table with us.  He has a wooden one there that tucks right up to the table.

Tuesday: SNOW DAY, no work
Jack and I chilled in our PJs since Tim worked all day and we were iced in.  We watched TV, played on the carpet and slept.  Jack and I had 3 naps (5-6 hours worth) and he went to bed at 9 since he did sleep a lot.  Tim came home with Starbucks (woohoo!) and we did laundry, ate dinner and relaxed.

Wednesday: 2 Hour Delay
I got to sleep in again.  I had work and Jack hung out at his Nanny's for the day so Tim could get work done.  We ate as a family.

Thursday: Full Day of Work
Jack went to our friend's house for the day while both of us had work.   I picked him up after work, and we came home to hang out with Tim.  Then we brought him to my parents house for his weekly sleep over and went to dinner with Amy and Patrick.  We got home at 11pm, I figured we'd have a snow day so I wasn't concerned.

Jack was at his grandma's for the day.  Tim and I slept in (what bliss) and then picked up around the house.  Afterwards we left to run errands before picking up Jack.  He had to go look at a job so I stayed at my parents with Jack.  Then we went to the mall and Tim met us there.  Afterwards we went to Lowes and got new hardwood floors for our house. Came home and went to bed.

Tim had work, so it has just been Jack and I.  We have played and ate all day.  He gets himself into sitting position now.  When I went to get him out of the crib he was sitting upright.  He is so cute with his 5 teeth.  We are waiting for Tim to get home and then I am heading out to meet up with friends for dinner.  The home to my family and repeat for tomorrow.

Day 25 - guilty pleasure

Daytime trashy TV.  I can watch Maury, Steve Wilkos, Jerry Springer for hours.  Granted I don't have that opportunity to waste away my afternoons since I am at work or occupied by Jack I try to once a month.

Weekends I waste away with NCIS, CSI and Law&Order on TV the entire time.  NCIS is my favorite though.

Day 24: where I live- in detail, what makes it special?

I live in Putnam County.  I have been here since 1991, left for 3 years for college (Bronx) and VA (to be with Tim).  I still only know a small section as I have never traveled more towards the Hudson River side of Putnam.
Brewster has the following Historical Sites/Landmarks:
- Doanesburg-Sears Burying Ground
- Green Chimneys Farm and Wildlife Conservation Center
- Old Southeast Church and Walter Brewster House
- Southeast Museum
- Tilly Foster Farm
I have been to all those spots.  Either on my own or school trips.

We also have a train station in the village, the village has drastically changed over the years.  Everything has either closed or changed hands, I wouldn't walk through the village after dark even with someone.  The movies closed, the coffee shop I hung out at during high school every weekend no longer exists, and some restaurants.  I wish the changes had been for the better.

We want Jack and future children to go to Brewster Schools, so we have 5 years to move back into the Brewster school area.  My siblings and I had great opportunities while attending the schools and I also like that it is big enough but not so big:  2 Elementary schools, 1 Intermediate, 1 Middle and 1 High school.  I graduated with 250 my siblings were with 300+.  Plus lower taxes then most of the county!

The bike path has reached Brewster!  Last summer it was only into Carmel, and I took a ride from Carmel to Yorktown.  This summer I would like to go further down with my partner Ryan and maybe even Jack since I have a cart from him to go in off the back of the bike.

I like my town a lot!!

Cheating out on this one.  I don't cook.  I bake cupcakes and I just follow the box!
Count me in as being lazy.

Day 20: Hobby

I love taking pictures.  I am not professional about it at all.  I just like to take pictures of friends, family and JACK!  I have albums and albums from High School to present, enough to fill 3-20 gallon bins in storage.  Since digital cameras came out I don't have to to print everything but can still save it.  I have started with CDs full of pictures.

This year I am doing Project Life by Becky Higgins at the recommendation of an online friend/blogger.  I ordered the project for Jack's first year, then with the moving and baby.  I figured we'll wait for 2011.

Another hobby is reading.  I am finally able to read again at night after Jack goes to bed, even when I get home from work since I don't have much to plan for work the next day.  I also got the Nook for our Anniversary and take that with me, it is so convenient to use.    I hope that Jack loves to read like his parents.

Day 19: A talent

Skiing and snowboarding that I have let lapse since I started working and then last winter I was pregnant so I could not do go at all.  I started skiing in 4th grade, I started snowboarding in 9th grade (where I met Tim).  I started teaching skiing at the local mountain and moved up to snowboard lessons.  I mainly taught little kids (my favorites) but at times I would do older.  I did group and private lessons and worked there throughout high school and stopped after my freshman year of college because I didn't live close anymore.

I have 2 snowboards- Flow full set up and Arbor board.

Day 17: an art piece

I am not that into paintings.  I go to museums and like them but in my house we have done.  Growing up we had this picture in our house.  I believe my mom still has it somewhere.  We always called it : Dead berries in a basket.  I (we) have seen it out in restaurants, other people's homes and hotels.  I guess it is pretty famous.

Day 16: Song that Makes Me Cry

This song reminds me of when my Grandma passed away 4.3.08.  I must have played it a thousand times during that period.

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Day 15: Role Model

My role model: My mom.  She has raised 3 kids (that were 3 years apart in total) and many times alone as my father traveled a lot when we were little. She also moved cross country to California and then back to NY with 2 young kids.  She has faced many challenges (she raised me didn't she?!) and now has 3 successful children and a grandchild.  I hope I can handle what she has like she has one day.  Also have children that turned out as great as hers and she never brags.  My role model is my mom.

Day 14: Nonfiction book

Product DetailsBoring I know but this book (along with my friends) have gotten me through all the questions I have about Jack and baby things.  I used the expecting book while I was pregnant also.  My reading revolves around Jack and grad school nowadays.  I have no other choice.

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Day 13: Fictional Book

Currently I am reading baby books to Jack.
We like Spot books and read them every day about Mommy, Daddy, and Grandma.
Spot Loves His Mommy

Day 12: Something I am OCD about

I am OCD about COUPONS.  I shop with them ALL THE TIME.  I always have my coupons organizer on me.  My mom group and friends have called me "Coupon Karen".  By using them though I have save THOUSANDS of dollars on baby stuff for Jack.  He is almost 8 months and I have spent LESS THAN $300 on PAMPERS diapers.  I have been able to keep with name brand diapers and Ready-to-Feed Formula this entire time because of my habits.
Every Sunday I get the paper and clip my coupons and compare them with the store ads.  My practices get me 1-2 FREE items a week also by doing that.  I really should start a blog on coupon using!

Day 9: A photo I took

I took this at 6am when we did family photos on the beach.  We were at the Jersey Shore for the week July 2009.  They were about 50 yards from shore.  It was beautiful.

Day 8: A photo that makes me sad

This makes me sad that Jack even had to deal with any of this at such a young age.

Goals: Reno Plans for 2011

    • We need to officially finish the kitchen which includes a new door.  (Spring 11 project because taking off a door in the winter is not ideal).
    • Light fixture in kitchen.  We have a box for electric above the sink and it is ugly as-is so something needs to be installed.
    • Shelving unit at the built in desk area in living room.  This will be for organization AND decoration- my Willow Trees are still boxed up.  Tim is building a custom shelves for me.  This should be done by end of January.
  • TILED ROOM downstairs
    • Entryway organizer.  I LOVE those locker/coat & shoe organizers.  Tim agreed and likes the look for the tiled room coming in from back yard.  We decided instead of spending money he will build us one custom.  I like this one and it is being used as our inspiration (although it may be wider for 3 baskets:PatersonBlkPnlBncWCs3QS10

    • PAINT.  What colors and where right now are up in the air.  I want to keep the black trim in the tiled room, I think its nice, Tim wants to replace all those doors and trim.  So its TBD.
  • PLAYROOM/TV room:
    •  PAINT!  I am thinking one accent wall and the rest just get freshened up.  I want a deep red for our gallery wall.  We have hung up pictures for various locations we have been to or our family (China, Portugal, Suez Canal, Washington DC, St. Louis, Egypt, Paris)  I love the wall and the idea of showing pictures from people we know!
    • Floor:  We haven't decided what to do other then agreeing to rip up the carpet, it does not match.  We are thinking of the Pergo wood floors OR new carpet in a more neutral color (it is blue now)
    • Closet:  we are thinking of changing the door on the walk in closet.  It faces into the playroom (last owners had a bedroom down there which had to be ripped out due to code- so wall was taken down).  If the door switches to open into the tile room then we can open up more space by pushing couches back.  Tim also wants to add a bookcase down there since all our books are also in boxes still.
I will keep posting with progress made.

Day 6: 20 of my Favorite Things

  1. Jack
  2. Husband
  3. my house
  4. Venti Vanilla no water Chai from Starbucks
