Children's Summer Reading Programs

The teacher in me must share this information on a few different summer reading programs.  I have always been one for summer reading programs and LOVE that stores give their own incentives for kids to read too.  I was that nerd in high school that helped make the summer reading lists the students had to read.

Essex Steam Engine

So today we visited "Thomas" up in Essex, CT- Steam Train.  Jack had so much fun, and the look of awe on his face was enough to make you melt.  Even Charlotte enjoyed looking out the window while giggling and laughing.  Thomas was really there, he had been though early in May but we missed it, next year we'll plan better.  Instead we took the 1 hour train ride into the country and back, we skipped the river cruise on the boat, but that is an added option.  The train ride is narrated the whole time, about the history of the area along with where the trains are from originally and how old they are. Included are a few favorites from the day out, I already made a photobook on Shutterfly for Jack to have to remember.

Wittlebee Review

I had been hearing things about Wittlebee for a while now, so I finally decided to try it.  It is a monthly delivery service for clothing (newborn-5T) of all brand new clothes valued around $100 but only costs $39.99 a month.  The clothing is solid colored for the most part, and basic clothing items: leggings, onesies, shirts, shorts, dresses, socks and more. The clothing is yours to keep, or donate back when you are finished.

I was impressed on how quickly the box arrived from Wittlebee, they use USPS for shipping.  I made a profile for Charlotte to start: 12 months size, warm weather clothing for a hipster/geek girl according to their style profiles.  Your GIRL choices are princess, hipster, mix & match, diva or geek girl and BOYS choices are casual, preppy, hipster, mix & match, and sporty. examples of sample boxes
I am going to try it with Jack next.  I recommend you try it, cancel if you don't like, but I am sure you will.  (Also a great gift to give to new parents!!)

Our box came with :

  • Children's Place shorts
  • Teddy Boom dress
  • American Apparel onesie
  • j. Khaki shorts
  • Teddy Boom leggings
  • Carter's leggings

Spring 2012 Semester (update!)

9 credits were completed this term, for a total of 30 credits total in 4 semesters.  I need 6 credits left to graduate with a Masters in Special Education (MS).  This should take place December 2012.  I have completed the program (since I don't need to student teach again) as of now but need 36 credits to be awarded the diploma.  So, this fall I am taking 2 additional classes in Early Childhood and Adolescent Childhood to expand my teaching opportunities and receive 2 more licenses for teaching.

Jack enjoyed going to college with me today since I had to drop off the last paper. He kept saying college while marching along decked out in Thomas gear.

Grades are in!!! 4.0 for semester and 3.910 since I have started

8 Months

Charlotte is a crawler! She went from nothing to Ms. Speedy in 1 day basically.  Easter Sunday, she decided was the day to crawl, mid week she decided to pull herself up on items and stand. So now we crawl (loves to chase Jack) and stands holding on with 1 or 2 hands.

She is in size 3 diapers and wearing 9 month clothing by Carter's or 6-12 months in Gymboree and 77 Kids. Shoe size 2. Chunky Monkey!!

The cage has been set up, her toys are inside and she plays.  2 kids on the move is newest challenge here.

Foods: we have been braver since she is our second and well Jack tries to feed her everything.  She has tried all veggies and they are mainly the foods we have been given her.  She has tried apple sauce, pear food, PUFFS, Biscuit cookies, and pizza crust.  I call her my guppy, she is like a fish when food is near, mouth open- begging for food.  She likes sitting in the highchair or toddler table set up in kitchen now.  Jack pulls out her seat and tells her to sit.

Reacts to TV now, like Jack, certain shows spark her interest.  Caillou is one of her favorites just like big brother?  Why do kids love that show?? Is it because most parents I know get aggravated by the show like us?

She has started to participate in MyGym classes more, climbing on things and rolling around.  She attends library with us and thankfully sits while I chase Jack around.  Swim class should be starting up soon.  I am sure she will be walking by summer vacation to the Shore.

I know I am repeating myself, but I just LOVE LOVE LOVE watching Jack and Charlotte together, he cherishes his sister and she idolizes him.  Lets hope it stays that way forever!

Recently I was selected to try out and share the Stonyfield Products for kids.  Jack LOVES LOVES LOVES these yogurts and so I have them stocked in our fridge at all times.  As a tester I received FREE products: the picture above is half of the free products I received.  I also received coupons to give out to my mom friends at our next gathering.  If you like Stonyfield, please join their rewards program, there are codes on the containers of yogurts (multi packs have them on top right package).  Using codes I have received magazines, free yogurt and currently saving for a bigger reward.
