National Geographic Books.. Holiday Gift Ideas

Need gifts for kids? Nonfiction books are great (not to mention the push with nonfiction in Science  in regards to the Common Core standards)! National Geographic has great books geared for kids.

"National Geographic is one of the world’s premier scientific, education, and research organizations. For more than 125 years, the National Geographic team has been dedicated to exploring and documenting the world. Their message reaches more than 450 million people worldwide, each month through several media outlets. The company has funded more than 10,000 conservation, exploration, and scientific expeditions in support of their mission “to inspire people to care about the planet.” As a continuation of this mission, National Geographic Kids Books also offer several nonfiction books for kids to help educate them about our planet. National Geographic is the leading kids nonfiction publisher, and each of their books is packed with photos, facts, and fun, offering the perfect balance of “edu-tainment” for kids and parents. If you’re looking to get your kids excited about learning, National Geographic books are a great place to start. " -Moms Meet/ National Geographic
I received 10 great books to read and share with friends.  My kids love books and automatically these became some of our bedtime stories and mid-day turn off the TV and read books.  They love the real pictures of the animals and some of the jokes Jack would run around retelling and laughing out loud even if he was the only one laughing.

We received:

  • National Geographic Kids Chapters: Best Friends Forever
  • Everything Pets
  • Funny Fill In: My Animal Adventure
  • National Geographic Reader: Meerkats
  • Ultimate Weird But True 2
  • Almanac 2014
  • Little Kids First Big Book of Why
  • Just Joking
  • Devoted
  • Mother's Love

Recently I also was able to partake in a workshop at the Moms Meet Mom Summit with National Geographic Kids called Dare to Explore.
They talked about Raising Curious Kids and gave some tips, which I thought would be perfect to add here.
Tip 1: EXPLORE - "world is waiting for them to explore"
Tip 2: GET OUTSIDE-  "Children are spending 1/2 as much time outdoors as they did 20 years ago"
Tip 3: READ
Tip 4: SHARE STORIES- real and fictional, "unplug" from technology
Tip 5: INSPIRE WONDER- "find wonder in the smallest of things"
